Remembering the Thorn Electronics Factory in Newhaven

Did you work here?

By John Cheves

The photograph below was taken at the Thorn Consumer Electronics factory at Denton Island, Newhaven in the mid 1970's. The photograph shows the staff of the factory with a large scale model of one of the music centres they produced there and was given to us by Winnie Day who worked at the factory at the time. You can read more about Winnie's working life here in our archive section.

Did you or any of your family members work at the factory?

We would love to hear of any memories you may have. If you would like to leave your comments, please click the link at the bottom of the page.

I used to work as an Apprentice at Thorn Newhaven in the 70s - I remember posing with that huge music center, sadly I don't have a copy of that photo now. I joined the company in 1973, did a 4 year apprenticeship and spent a couple of years working for Bill Day doing time studies and alike. I am now living and working in California for an electronics company, nothing changes ha ha :-) I would be interested to hear from any ex-Thorn Newhaven folks. Regards Bill Redhead
